Daan Smits is a versatile tenor with a great passion for the pop and musical theater genres. Besides singing, his heart truly lies in teaching. He coaches many well-known singers at the Universal Voice Institute.
Education
In 2012, Daan graduated from the Music Theater Academy of Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam. Immediately after graduation, he was able to start teaching at the same program as a voice teacher. Other places where Daan has taught besides Codarts include Lucia Marthas Institute for Performing Arts and the Frank Sanders Academy in Amsterdam.
Musicals
As a singer/actor, Daan has been performing in various theater productions for years. He was part of the cast of the very famous musical Soldier of Orange, Under the Green Sky by Bos Theater Productions, and Miffy (as Father Pluis). Last theater season, he played the role of teacher Tino van Dijk in Spijt, based on the well-known book by Carry Slee.
Vocal Coach
Besides performing in musicals, Daan is also often active as a vocal coach. As musical director and vocal coach, he has been involved with various productions. For example, Daan did the vocal coaching for the successful show Chez Brood, the TV series Petticoat, and was musical director for various amateur productions.
